At Feed the Hungry San Miguel, nourishing children is at the heart of everything we do. In October, we were honored to welcome Armando Rangel Hernández, Delegate of the Secretaría de Educación de Guanajuato (SEG), for a meaningful visit that reaffirmed a shared commitment to the wellbeing and educational success of children across our region.
During his visit, Delegate Rangel toured our program operations, met with staff and volunteers, and observed firsthand the daily work that makes our School Meals Program possible. His reflections highlighted the importance of what we do. Feeding a child is not only an act of compassion: is an investment in their education, their development, and their future.
A New Agreement to Support More Children
On this visit, Feed the Hungry San Miguel and the Secretaría de Educación formalized an agreement that expands the impact of our work. Through this collaboration, close to 5,000 preschool and primary school students in 51 schools (including communities and charitable organizations) receive nutritious, well balanced meals every day.
Delegate Rangel shared a powerful message following the signing:
“Alimentar el cuerpo también es alimentar el futuro. Nuestra niñez recibe mucho más que comida. Recibe energía para aprender, concentración para estudiar y esperanza para crecer.”
“Nourishing the body is also nourishing the future. Our children receive much more than food. They receive energy to learn, focus to study, and hope to grow.”
This partnership represents a united commitment to ensuring that every child in these communities has the nutrition they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond.
A Comprehensive Model That Changes Lives
Delegado Rangel commented on the strength of our holistic approach, which includes:
- Fully equipped school kitchens
- Dedicated volunteer cooks trained in safe food handling and preparation
- Weekly menus designed by professional nutritionists and chefs
- Continuous nutritional status monitoring and health assessments for participating students
This comprehensive model means that every meal is prepared with care, aligned with nutrition standards, and supported by data-driven evaluation throughout the school year.
“Un seguimiento constante al bienestar de cada estudiante hacen de este programa un verdadero ejemplo de compromiso con la niñez.”
“The constant monitoring of each student’s well-being make this program a true example of commitment to children.”
Recognizing the Power of Community
Delegate Rangel expressed deep gratitude to everyone who makes this program possible.
This includes our staff, school directors, volunteer cooks, warehouse team, chefs, nutritionists, donors, and the hundreds of community volunteers who pack and deliver food each week.
He offered special thanks to our Executive Director, Verónica Agundis, for her leadership and dedication to ensuring that the children of San Miguel receive the attention and nutrition they deserve.
“Gracias a Feed the Hungry, a su directora Vero Agundis y a cada voluntario y aliado que hace posible este gran esfuerzo por la educación y la salud de Guanajuato.”
“Thanks to Feed the Hungry, its director Vero Agundis, and every volunteer and ally who makes this great effort for education and health in Guanajuato possible.”
A Shared Vision for Guanajuato’s Children
This visit and newly signed agreement mark an important milestone in our mission. Nutrition and education are deeply connected. When a child receives a balanced meal, they gain more than nourishment. They gain the ability to focus, participate, learn, and dream.
Thanks to the support of the Secretaría de Educación and leaders like Delegate Armando Rangel Hernández, Feed the Hungry San Miguel is able to strengthen its reach, deepen its impact, and support thousands of children each school day.
Together, we continue building a future where every child in Guanajuato has the opportunity to grow, succeed, and shine.
