Feed the Hungry San Miguelโ€™s newest school kitchen opened in this rural community, where 34 percent of the elementary school students were diagnosed with some level of malnutrition. The children receive breakfast as well as lunch in the new kitchenโ€”a total of 530 meals are served every day.

Clean Water: A Logical Expansion of the Mission

Many school children have a difficult time staying alert in class because they are hungry, but also due to dehydration. Our Student Hydration Program provides clean water for children in the classrooms and for food preparation in the school kitchens. Each month, purified water in large refillable jugs is delivered for nearly 2,500 children in 19 communities.

Extended Alimentation Program: Extra Help for Families in Need

The Extended Alimentation Program aims to eradicate malnutrition within entire families by providing bags of food to households that present extreme cases of impoverishment and malnutrition. Currently, there are 45 families in 5 communities benefiting from the program, which also includes home visits where we can observe living conditions.

A Community We Support: Clavellinas

Clavellinas, also known as Coyotes Clavellinas, is one of the most populated communities within the San Miguel de Allende municipality, with 1,425 inhabitants in 296 homes. Our school kitchen there, opened in 2007, serves meals every school day to 300 preschool and elementary school students.

Feed the Hungry San Miguel recently hosted guests of our popular โ€œMarch Magicโ€ tour, held March 28 through April 3. Attendees got to experience the wonders of San Miguel de Allende and surrounding areas, as well as the kind of transformative work we are able to do thanks to the funds raised by the event.

I am honored to introduce myself as the new president of Feed the Hungry San Miguel. I started working with Feed the Hungry more than three years ago, first packing food, then driving food deliveries to schools every week, then as a board member.
