A Balanced Meal – Feed the Hungry Style

We believe that good nutrition begins at home. That’s why in this edition our nutritionists are sharing a menu and healthy, easy recipes for a complete and balanced meal of pozole with fresh salad and orange water that provides a balance of protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins for the whole family.

POZOLE (20 porciones / servings)

Ingredientes / Ingredients

  • 1 kg pollo / chicken
  • 2 bolsas maíz pozolero / hominy corn
  • 1 kg garbanzos / chickpeas
  • 2 cebollas / onions
  • 4 dientes ajo / garlic cloves
  • 1 pizca hojas de laurel / bay leaves
  • 1 pizca comino / cumin
  • 100 g chile guajillo / guajillo chili
  • ½ kg jitomate / tomatoes
  • 1 pizca orégano / oregano
  • Sal al gusto / salt to taste

Procedimiento / Preparation

  • Remojar garbanzos toda la noche y cocer. (Soak chickpeas overnight and cook until tender.)
  • Cocer el maíz con ajo, laurel y cebolla durante 1 hora. (Cook the hominy corn with garlic, bay leaves, and onion for about 1 hour.)
  • Agregar garbanzos y pollo cocido (desmenuzado). (Add chickpeas and shredded chicken.)
  • Cocer jitomate, ajo, cebolla y chile guajillo; licuar con especias y sal. (Cook tomatoes, garlic, onion, and guajillo chili; blend with spices and salt.)
  • Incorporar la salsa al pozole y dejar hervir. (Add the sauce to the pozole and let simmer.)

ENSALADA FRESCA / FRESH SALAD

Ingredientes / Ingredients

  • 3 pepinos / cucumbers
  • 2 lechugas / lettuces
  • 1 manojo rábanos / radishes
  • 6 limones / limes
  • Sal al gusto / salt to taste

Procedimiento / Preparation
Picar pepino, rábanos y lechuga; mezclar y sazonar con limón y sal.
(Chop cucumber, radishes, and lettuce; mix and season with lime and salt.)

AGUA DE NARANJA / ORANGE WATER

Ingredientes / Ingredients

  • Jugo de naranja natural / fresh orange juice
  • Agua y hielo al gusto / water and ice to taste
  • Valor nutricional (1 vaso / 1 glass):
  • 60 kcal
  • 100% vitamina C diaria / daily vitamin C
  • 13 g azúcares naturales / natural sugars
