Dear Feed the Hungry Supporter,
This year has been like none other. In March, we retooled all of our activity to distribute food to entire families in need due to the COVID-19 pandemic. School closures meant that the children were no longer receiving nutrition through our school meals program. Job losses left parents desperate for help.
Through our Feed the Families Emergency Response Program, we now deliver packages of food and cleaning products bi-weekly to 37 communities where we normally operate school kitchens. In addition, seven local charities and several community aid groups also receive the supplies to distribute to their beneficiaries.
From late March to early December, more than 65,000 food packages had been provided; the equivalent of more than 7 million meals.
As they visit the communities, our nutritionists and chefs are also providing mothers with instruction on preparation of the ingredients we deliver, as well as good hygiene practices. They see the tears of gratitude on the faces of people who had not known where their next meal was coming from. These families now depend on our food deliveries, and knowing this gives meaning to all the hard work and risk involved in carrying out this plan.
The cost and logistics to run this operation have presented the biggest challenges that we have faced in our 35-year history. We intend to continue this program for as long as there is the need for it—or until we run out of funds. We hope that we can count on you to help us continue to serve needy families in San Miguel de Allende. Your support is enabling us to feed close to 20,000 people affected by the crisis.
During this season of giving, we are grateful to be able to ease the suffering of so many, thanks to the generosity of our supporters.
