A fines de marzo de 2020, un grupo de expatriados en su mayor\u00eda en la colonia Ojo de Agua comenz\u00f3 una despensa de alimentos para ayudar a los vecinos que estaban sufriendo dificultades debido a la reducci\u00f3n o p\u00e9rdida total del trabajo debido a la pandemia de COVID-19. Ojo de Agua es una comunidad diversa no muy lejos del distrito hist\u00f3rico de San Miguel de Allende. Hay casas m\u00e1s antiguas, algunas con tres generaciones de familias viviendo juntas. Tambi\u00e9n hay casas m\u00e1s nuevas ocupadas por una mezcla global de expatriados y ciudadanos mexicanos.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Reconociendo la necesidad de ayudar r\u00e1pidamente a sus vecinos en apuros, se form\u00f3 un Comit\u00e9 de Alimentos, dirigido por Mary Finley. Coordinaron la log\u00edstica y distribuci\u00f3n de las despensas. Durante los primeros dos meses, compraron todos los productos secos, productos frescos, huevos y otros art\u00edculos diversos (cepillos de dientes, pasta de dientes, champ\u00fa, etc.) y los distribuyeron a 15 familias compuestas por 68 personas.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A finales de mayo de ese a\u00f1o supieron que pod\u00edan recibir ayuda de la Feed the Hungry San Miguel. A partir de junio, comenzaron a recoger bolsas de alimentos en el Centro Feed the Hungry para su distribuci\u00f3n quincenal. Complementaron las bolsas de alimentos con art\u00edculos frescos como limones, papas, cebollas, frutas y huevos, as\u00ed como otros art\u00edculos diversos seg\u00fan fuera necesario. Eventualmente pasaron a un programa mensual y, cuando terminaron las distribuciones un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s, en junio de 2021, estaban alimentando a 19 familias. Los destinatarios estaban muy agradecidos por el apoyo que recibieron.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Adem\u00e1s de proporcionar alimentos, el grupo inici\u00f3 lecciones semanales de ingl\u00e9s para los ni\u00f1os y algunos de los padres los s\u00e1bados por la ma\u00f1ana. Hicieron ese trabajo durante unos cuatro meses (septiembre-diciembre de 2020), hasta que los voluntarios se preocuparon por el aumento de casos de COVID. Tambi\u00e9n organizaron noches de cine al aire libre para los ni\u00f1os.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Actualmente, los vecinos est\u00e1n trabajando codo con codo para ayudar a limpiar y reparar la capilla (capilla) de 400 a\u00f1os de antig\u00fcedad, que es el coraz\u00f3n de la comunidad. La plaza de la iglesia es donde se encuentra el actual \u201cojo de agua\u201d.<\/p>

Los voluntarios clave del proyecto de distribuci\u00f3n de alimentos fueron Mary Finley, Randy Kremlacek, Joy Sablatura, Dena Cruz, Robert Stolebarger, Patricia Schacke y Brad Rockwell.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
