Cuando Bob y Lucy Berglund oyeron hablar de Feed the Hungry San Miguel en 2007, fue casi por casualidad, durante un viaje por carretera, una conversaci\u00f3n en un hostal y una recaudaci\u00f3n de fondos local. Lo que les impact\u00f3 de inmediato fue la claridad<\/em> del programa. Les gust\u00f3 saber que su apoyo ir\u00eda directamente a las escuelas y a los ni\u00f1os \nque m\u00e1s lo necesitaban, sin pasar por capas de burocracia. Esa transparencia en el impacto los \ninspir\u00f3 a convertirse en Kitchen Angels, comenzando con la cocina escolar en la comunidad rural de Jalpa.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

En nuestra cocina escolar de Jalpa, Bob y Lucy pudieron presenciar el poder de una comida \ncaliente y nutritiva. Recuerdan c\u00f3mo los ni\u00f1os caminaban largas distancias \u00fanicamente para \npoder almorzar en la escuela, prueba de lo esencial que era el programa en su vida diaria. \u201cFue muy significativo ver la determinaci\u00f3n de los ni\u00f1os\u201d, record\u00f3 Bob. \u201cNos mostr\u00f3 cu\u00e1nto \nsignificaban estas comidas para ellos\u201d.<\/p>

Cuando la escuela de Jalpa finalmente se gradu\u00f3 del Programa de Comidas Escolares en 2021, los Berglund no dudaron en continuar con su apoyo en otra escuela, esta vez en Alonso Y\u00e1\u00f1ez. Su compromiso fue a\u00fan m\u00e1s lejos, pues tambi\u00e9n ayudaron a dar continuidad al Programa de Hidrataci\u00f3n y al Programa de Nutrici\u00f3n en la Primera Infancia. \u201cNos dio gusto contribuir en la construcci\u00f3n de algo duradero\u201d, dijo Bob. \u201cSe sinti\u00f3 como una manera de acompa\u00f1ar a la comunidad en su camino\u201d.<\/p>

Su dedicaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n se hizo evidente durante la crisis de COVID 19. Bob y Lucy estuvieron entre los primeros en dar un paso adelante y apoyar el programa de ayuda de emergencia de Feed the Hungry. Bob recuerda sentirse impresionado por el liderazgo y la determinaci\u00f3n del Consejo y del personal para transformar toda la operaci\u00f3n en menos de dos semanas con el fin de distribuir despensas a todas las familias de las comunidades. \u201cA menudo hablamos con amigos sobre lo importante que es para los expatriados contribuir a esta comunidad\u201d, explic\u00f3. \u201cEsta es la forma m\u00e1s directa de donar, una que puedes ver y sentir en acci\u00f3n\u201d.<\/p>

La generosidad de los Berglund tambi\u00e9n tiene un profundo significado personal. En 2018, una de \nnuestras cocinas fue dedicada a la memoria de su querido hijo, Carl, quien falleci\u00f3 de c\u00e1ncer \ncerebral. Para Bob y Lucy, esa dedicaci\u00f3n transform\u00f3 su dolor en un legado viviente que \nalimenta a ni\u00f1as y ni\u00f1os de San Miguel en honor a Carl.<\/p>

Con el paso de los a\u00f1os, Bob tambi\u00e9n se ha sentido impactado por el alcance y la eficiencia de la operaci\u00f3n de Feed the Hungry. Recuerda haber visitado el almac\u00e9n, observar a los voluntarios empacar alimentos y ver a los choferes salir rumbo a las escuelas para entregar las raciones. \u201cEs una operaci\u00f3n impresionante\u201d, coment\u00f3. \u201cTantos voluntarios hacen posible este trabajo. Las pocas personas que reciben un sueldo, como chefs, cocineras, nutri\u00f3logas y un peque\u00f1o equipo profesional, reciben una compensaci\u00f3n modesta, y ese apoyo regresa a la comunidad local. Es una situaci\u00f3n en la que todos ganan: los ni\u00f1os, las cocineras y sus familias\u201d.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Para Bob, el mensaje para otros Kitchen Angels, o para quienes est\u00e1n considerando convertirse en uno, es sencillo: \u201cEs una oportunidad para ver c\u00f3mo tu donaci\u00f3n se convierte en algo bueno. Es una forma muy directa de ayudar a las personas en un pa\u00eds que amamos\u201d. Feed the Hungry San Miguel se ha convertido, por mucho, en la principal causa a la que dirige su filantrop\u00eda, precisamente porque puede ver el impacto de cerca. \u201cPodr\u00edamos haber donado a otras organizaciones grandes, pero lo que nos gusta aqu\u00ed es el contacto directo con las comunidades y la certeza de los resultados\u201d.<\/p>

Entre sus recuerdos favoritos est\u00e1n sus visitas a Jalpa, donde en dos ocasiones pudo ver la cocina en plena actividad y a los ni\u00f1os disfrutando de sus comidas. \u201cFue maravilloso ver la diferencia: de no tener nada antes, a ver ni\u00f1os felices y saludables comiendo alimentos nutritivos. Y hasta me divert\u00ed con ellos, tomando fotos y compartiendo su alegr\u00eda\u201d.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
