At Feed the Hungry San Miguel, our mission to fight malnutrition in vulnerable communities extends beyond the school kitchens\u2014it reaches into classrooms, clinics, and hearts. One of the ways we foster this mission is by mentoring future professional nutritionists through our Internship Program.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

This season, we are proud to welcome a group of interns who are not only learning about the realities of community nutrition but are also making a tangible difference in the lives of hundreds of children. Through daily fieldwork, health screenings, and workshops with families, these students are gaining hands-on experience while contributing to the greater good.<\/p>

One of our interns, Jazmin Alvarez Garcia, shared what led her to choose Feed the Hungry:<\/p>

\u201cI identified with Feed the Hungry\u2019s mission to improve children\u2019s health and wellbeing in vulnerable communities. I had never worked closely in these settings before, especially with children, and I saw it as an enriching opportunity for both personal and professional growth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

She goes on to describe the challenges and revelations of working directly with families:<\/p>

\u201cOne of the biggest challenges was seeing nutritional deficiencies in so many children\u2014many of which go unnoticed by parents and school staff. This has changed my perspective on nutrition; it\u2019s no longer just theory\u2014it\u2019s about real lives, real barriers, and real impact.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Our interns don\u2019t just weigh and measure young bodies\u2014they listen, observe, teach, and learn as they lead workshops throughout the communities we serve, fostering dialogue and awareness around children\u2019s health. These moments of connection rooted in empathy, education, and action, are where change begins.<\/p>

They are guided by our team of dedicated nutritionists, gaining not only technical skills but also developing deep empathy and cultural understanding. As she shared:<\/p>

\u201cEmpathy, sensitivity, and the ability to connect with families matter just as much as technical knowledge. Listening and respecting the social context of each community has taught me how meaningful our work truly is.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

The Feed the Hungry Internship Program is designed to be a two-way bridge: students gain invaluable experience while our organization benefits from their fresh energy, ideas, and commitment.<\/p>

To future interns, Jazmin offers this advice:<\/p>

\u201cBe proactive, stay open, and absorb everything your mentors share with you. Our work as nutritionists has the power to transform lives\u2014never lose sight of that.\u201d<\/em><\/p>
