En las peque\u00f1as comunidades rurales del municipio de San Miguel no existen guarder\u00edas. Esto se debe principalmente a que las madres no tienen un empleo \u201cexterno\u201d; se quedan en casa para cuidar a sus hijos, aunque algunos participan en actividades artesanales. Despu\u00e9s de alrededor de los ocho meses de edad, los ni\u00f1os son alimentados esencialmente con la misma dieta que el resto de la familia.<\/p>

Desde 1984, Feed the Hungry San Miguel ha brindado comidas escolares en muchas de las comunidades m\u00e1s pobres de San Miguel de Allende. Durante ese tiempo, hemos observado que muchos de los ni\u00f1os ingresan a la escuela ya desnutridos, y hasta cierto punto subdesarrollados, debido a las condiciones de pobreza en el hogar y las deficiencias nutricionales relacionadas con la falta de vitaminas y minerales en su dieta. To address this issue, the Early Childhood Nutrition program was launched in 2019 and is currently <\/span>operating<\/span> en <\/span>15<\/span> communities, helping <\/span>223 <\/span>children.<\/span> Candidates invited to participate in the program are selected based on health assessments that we conduct in the communities where we operate school kitchens. The program is designed to diagnose and monitor the children’s conditions as well as educate the mothers about proper nutrition. Many of the parents are unaware of the bad choices they are making for themselves and their children, because that\u2019s the way they were raised.<\/p>

En las comunidades donde funciona el programa de Nutrici\u00f3n Infantil Temprana, las madres inscritas en el programa reciben semestralmente entregas de alimentos y talleres educativos. El programa est\u00e1 dirigido por el jefe de cocina Valentin Patlan, y cuenta con el apoyo de la nutricionista Liliana Granados y la chef Paola del Carmen Sanabria. El equipo es responsable de recopilar datos iniciales de una comunidad espec\u00edfica donde las mam\u00e1s y los beb\u00e9s han sido identificados y entrevistados previamente. La nutricionista pesa y mide a cada ni\u00f1o, entrega un diagn\u00f3stico y, en caso de desnutrici\u00f3n, el equipo programa visitas personalizadas a los hogares para conocer m\u00e1s sobre los h\u00e1bitos alimentarios de sus familias. Los chefs dise\u00f1an men\u00fas que las familias son capaces de preparar dentro de sus posibilidades. Dos veces por semana, el personal de Feed the Hungry visita las comunidades rurales donde se re\u00fanen con las madres y los ni\u00f1os.
